Major Keating M.C. in a Tailor's Shop in Lucera, November 12th 1943, by Edward Ardizzone. Geoffrey Keating was at that time Officer Commanding No 2 AFPS in Italy and had taken Ardizzone 'under his wing', as Ardizzone described it in his 'Dairy of a War Artist'. IWM (Art.IWM ART LD 3623)

My meeting in the City finished early. So I popped into the Art in War exhibition at the Imperial War Museum. Some classics, and others I hadn’t seen.
9 Oct 1943 // Destroyer HMS Panther was sunk by German aircraft east of Karpathos Island during the Dodecanese Campaign. Struck by bombs from Ju-87 dive bombers she broke in two and sank very rapidly. 33 of her crew were lost. (Imperial War Museum image A 7315) #RoyalNavy #WW2 #NavalHistory
