Redwing (Turdus iliacus). Holy island, Northumberland. a Beautiful thrush #NEbirding #birds
No proper birding today, but a short dusk dog walk was good value, with c540 Barnacle Geese yapping their way towards the Solway Firth, and a male Goshawk exchanging words with the local Buzzards #NEbirding
A second attempt for the Longhoughton Steel Lapland Bunting was more successful than the first. Lovely observations despite the blustery conditions - this bird had the knack of keeping in grass sufficiently long enough to never give a complete clear view! #NEbirding
Margrove Pond near Guisborough is 99% dry but a count of 51 Moorhens this afternoon may be significant for Cleveland? @teesbirds.bsky.social
Whooper Swan, Smew, Black-tailed Godwit, Avocet & Pied Wagtail this morning at RSPB Saltholme. @teesbirds.bsky.social

Another visit to see the shore larks this morning at the Leas better light than Tuesday #NEBirding#UKBirds
This late Cuckoo has been at Low Newton for the last few days. A fearless juvenile, more concerned with finding caterpillars than the people stood nearby watching it. At one point it landed right at my feet to pluck a caterpillar out of the grass, amazing ! #NEbirding #Lowcarbonbirding

Only 10 moths in last night’s trap Lunar underwing,Beaded chestnut,Large yellow underwing and 7 Black rustic’s VC62 Middlesbrough @teesbirds.bsky.social
Only two moths last night due to blustery wind and clear skies. Nevertheless, can’t complain when one of them was Flounced Chestnut, a garden ✅ and scarce species in the county these days. The other one was a November Moth agg. #TeamMoth @teesbirds.bsky.social
Short-eared Owl flew in off the sea to a Magpie welcome before dropping onto a nearby fence briefly then into cover at Blackhall Rocks a few days ago 👍 #Nebirds #ukbirds @durhambirdclub.bsky.social @teesbirds.bsky.social
Water Stick-insect was abundant today among emergent vegetation in lake at Cowpen Bewley Country Park nr Billingham. Other rapidly-expanding southern insects included Saucer Bug & Migrant Hawker dragonfly. None of these were present when I surveyed the lake in early 2000s. @teesbirds.bsky.social

Thousands of Barnacle Geese pouring north past Low Newton this afternoon. In amongst them a leucistic bird and a Ruddy Shelduck ! #NEbirding #Lowcarbonbirding
Patch workout- visit to Frenchman’s Bay, Marsden, for the Shorelark’s. Delightful wee birds. #NEBirding #UKBirding
Todd's at Budle Bay this p.m. Apparently not the bird photographed by @budlebirder.bsky.social a few days ago - this one is darker-breasted with a really narrow and dirty strap #UKbirding #NEbirding
Also present were last saturdays( or another) presumed Todd’s Canada Goose (Branta canadensis interior) and a briefly seen small-billed /dinky Canada Goose, possibly Richardson’s Cackling Goose (Branta hutchinsii hutchinsii #BudleBay #NEbirding
An obvious arrival of Barnacle Geese today, with birds flying in off the sea into a fresh westerly, bringing numbers around the bay to at least 4,500 by late afternoon inc three leucistic birds #BudleBay #NEbirding

Possible that this bird, which has turned up in Lothian in the past, is making its way north past Northumberland today #NEBirding
This white goose got the heart going whilst seawatching at Longhoughton Steel at lunchtime. To then see it tracked up the coast by various other sightings was cool. I had it as a leutistic Barnacle on reviewing some scope footage. #NEbirding
