It was, if the spirit of Iain Banks will forgive me, the day the pope exploded. Well, to be strictly accurate, today is the 68th anniversary of the day a botched embalming saw Pius XII’s rotting torso break open while he was lying in state. (Yes, sorry. This thread is absolutely disgusting)

The late 12th Century Galilee Chapel at Durham Cathedral, dominated by the shrine of St Bede. The large collection of medieval and continental glass in this chapel was set here in the 1960s. It includes glass from Ackworth Grange, Warwick Priory and several York churches.

Ponies and horses can be so kind. Here is one I asked to guard my car for me. Told him I’d definitely be back in no more than 45 minutes then ended up gone for a whole six hours. He stayed diligently at his post the whole time. What a guy!

'Stonehenge at Sunset' - I saw this stated as being by John Constable but it looks a bit too amateurish to me. It probably dates from the same period, though, and it's interesting - especially that roadside cross bottom left. A place to pray before passing by the devilish place? #StandingStoneSunday
