Mars in the Beehive cluster this morning. I had a second sequence all set up to get much shorter exposures that didn't blow out Mars. Unfortunately, the sky completely fogged over before I got there. #Astronomy #Astrophotography

Spiral galaxy NGC 2566, 76 million light-years away. This James Webb Space Telescope image highlights the galaxy’s compact bright core and tendrils of interstellar dust.
Out of a wreckage of a dying star, a new planet was born. And now that planet is evaporating like a comet, leaving a trail that whips around the star every 4 days. It's a remarkable story written in chemical clues. Nobody has ever seen anything like it before. 🧪🔭 esahubble.org/news/heic2613/

The planet Mars is currently passing through the Beehive star cluster (aka M44). The celestial event is visible worldwide in the morning sky and makes for a wonderful photo opportunity. 🔭 More sky events: skymaps.com/sc2610/
Last night’s observation was of the nebula Sh2-140, which illustrates two ways to see a molecular cloud: the dust in it hides myriad background stars in the lower half of the image; and a massive young star that formed from it illuminates its edge with ionising light, making the gas there glow. 🔭🧪
