I’m at New Scientist Live today! I’m speaking at 3.45pm on the Family Stage about game, AI and whether we can still beat the computer. Plus I’m signing copies of Next Level at Waterstones at 2.45pm. Say hi if you see me!

BATTLE FOR THE PORTAL was posted 23 YEARS AGO TODAY to @Newgrounds.com by SecretAgentBob, who went on to be known as @filmcow.bsky.social.
‘Wildwood’ is Laika Studio’s magnum opus, a dark, violent 2-hour fairy tale brought to life via their trademark immaculately-detailed animation. Most charming though is the film’s lovingly crafted depiction of contemporary craftsy, hipsterish Portland where young protags live.
Am officially seated for Paper Tiger and am praying for a miraculous manifestation of Adam Driver. #LFF
Unable to make it to the LFF this year so selling all of these #LFFstubs @lffstubs.bsky.social DM or reply if interested.
Trains & screening times have made this a silly early #LFF start today but it’ll be worth it with the absolutely stacked day ahead. On today’s rundown we got the newest Laika joint, Robert Pattinson hunting pedos & some 17th century Sandra Hüller goodness. Get that coffee in me & let’s get going! ☕️
What, mine eyes doth see? The Tragedy of Macbeth with Denzel Washington, Francis McDormand & Brendan Gleeson, directed by Joel Coen as if by Welles possessed, one foot in film, one theater. Silhouettes galore. No mannered elocution. Treachery in blood. Shakespeare for the people.

am I back on my movie shit? I think I'm back on my movie shit just watched: yup that's a good one
I've been there in an empty theater for every opening weekend of every LAIKA release and I'll be there for WILDWOOD but damnit I really thought this time it would've been different.
Seeing GRINDHOUSE again and I’m convinced no one has ever looked better than Marley Shelton in PLANET TERROR but then Zoe Bell appears in DEATH PROOF and proves me wrong
Forget Meg Ryan, this is the best faux big-O I’ve ever seen. …I think. … …I hope?
#LFF - RAY GUNN A new Brad Bird movie is always a delightful occasion, and this is a very fun one! As much a love letter to Bogart-era film noir as it is to retro sci-fi, this is an inventive and visually splendid treat that is, to use an overused pun, out of this world.
Film #329 of 2026 Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma (2026) Liked this a lot. Made it my Friday Night Horror Movie from a couple of weeks back. themidnightcafe.org/2026/09/26/t...
