In the aftermath of WW2, a victorious but near-bankrupt Britain needed foreign currency, and for the car industry the mantra was 'export or die'. With the US a prime target, Austin developed the 2.6-litre A90 Atlantic, a 2-door luxury model which it hoped was tailored to American tastes. #carbluesky

When GM's Australian division, Holden, introduced its new Opel-derived Commodore in 1978 it took a while before local buyers adapted to its more compact dimensions. By 1982 the VH version gained a more muscular image in dressed-up 4.2-litre SS form (with a 5-litre V8 optional). #carbluesky
