Posts that contain mentions of dark matter, WIMPs, axions, MACHO, CDM from people on the #physics or the science 🧪 lists or my list of people I know are dark matter-adjacent The feed image is of the bullet cluster, via wikipedia by NASA/CXC/M. Weiss, in public domain

For #spacetober_challenge day 2: galaxy - astronomer Vera Rubin (neé Cooper, ‘28-‘16) & her discovery that angular motion of galaxies deviates from predictions, 1st evidence for dark matter, now known as 5x as common as matter & the stuff which dictates dynamics of galaxies & 🧪🐡👩🏼🔬🔭 #histsci
Dark matter may not be as simple as we thought. Our new JWST paper, led by Daniel Gilman, uses 29 quasars, each split into four images by a galaxy's gravity, to hunt for invisible dark matter clumps. They look too dense for standard cold dark matter. 🧵 arxiv.org/abs/2609.35974 ⚛️ 🔭 🧪
1/ Can the shape of the Galactic Center gamma-ray excess tell dark matter from old stars? Yes. A recent PRL found them alike in sims, but squared the projected mass instead of integrating ρ². Corrected, annihilation is more centrally concentrated. arxiv.org/abs/2609.34155 ⚛️ 🔭 🧪 #highenergyastro

Could the invisible leave footprints in our detectors? 👣 CMS performs the first collider search for "inelastic dark matter" in the case where dark-matter particles travel a measurable distance before decaying into a pair of low-momentum electrons. Read more: cms.cern/news/chasing...
This week, @bipisci.bsky.social talks with the scientists behind NASA’s newly launched Roman Space Telescope about black holes, dark matter, dark energy, and exoplanets. Also, @neildegrassetyson.com and Seth chat about how astronomy has changed over their careers. 🧪 🔭 Listen here: buff.ly/l0Z5SB2
