Today is World Migratory Bird Day. Please say hello to the Pfeilstorch (‘arrow stork’). In 1822 this bird was shot in the German village of Klütz. It already had a 30-inch arrow in its neck. The arrow was made of African wood, and this bird played a pivotal role in our understanding of migration.
Got my nails done! Witchy fingers. Love the fitted comfort of the things & their velvet insides: beech mast as autumn’s foxgloves. Saw me a goshawk too. Silent as a barn owl down the ride, jinked away & sliced through the wood; might as well’ve flown through my open mouth and out the other side.
