This poor robin was brought to South Essex Wildlife Hospital. The bird is just one of many victims of horrific glue traps, which are still legal to sell and buy in the UK.
Froglife staff member Darren recently popped outside to put the recycling out, only to discover this handsome chap hiding underneath the bin! This beautiful great crested newt had found himself a cosy little hiding spot!
I had the amazing opportunity to chair a panel with Claire Mitchell, Zoe Venditozzi and Steven Veerapen at the Aberfoyle Book Festival. We spoke on history of witchcraft and folklore in Scotland, James VI and his influence on attitudes to witches and so much more.
I assume it is impossible to identify this fly seen on Willow in East Yorkshire last week? Even to genus? Egle? Dalia? I am guessing Egle ciliata but that is not a very well-informed guess. #fly #diptera #willow @ynuorg.bsky.social
AI data centres destroy wildlife habitats too. We need to join forces to stop unnecessary and harmful developments.
October leaf palette. If you zoom in to the colours and details it will dial down stress a little and help you recover if there's any angst for you later today (research has shown this)🍁🍂🌾🌿
Phytomyza germenilicis now published in collaboration with @dan-h-n.bsky.social, Carina van Steenwinkel & Rens Hendrickx. Look out for its distinctive mines on Holly (Ilex) seedlings this winter. @dipteristsforum.bsky.social @panspecieslisting.bsky.social www.researchgate.net/publication/...

Not your usual “weed” in block paving! Perhaps in part, the ecological value of your garden could be based on the weeds that come up where they’re not meant to!
Only two moths in and around the garden trap this morning, but I wasn't disappointed as one, the Chestnut was new for me, the other was a November Moth agg. #teammoth #mothsmatter

Fake cobwebs like these may look spooky – but what's really scary about them is that they can trap & injure wildlife, including birds, insects & small mammals. And fake webs aren't recyclable – so will end up in landfill for many years. More: www.littlegreenspace.org.uk/features/5-i... #halloween
The wild rainforest in our place is criss-crossed with old mossy stone walls, built when this was all open farmland before the trees returned. Nature loss *can* be reversed.
