There was a traditional Baltic sea herring market in Helsinki today, and what the hell, these grilled herring skewers were incredible. They were grilled with the same sauce/tare as unagi in Japan and tasted just like unagi! The most delicious way to eat herring I have ever heard!

Yesterday Ed Verhoeff and I played in the ‘Nieuwe Kerk’ @ Amsterdam in honor of Frank Martinus Arion, one of the biggest writers from Curaçao. His book ‘Dubbelspel’ made a big impact on me while in highschool. It felt special to be part of this. It felt special to honor him.

Went on my first ever Bear Pride march today, kinda surreal to walk through the streets of Brussels with a little Manneken Pis dressed up as a bear! Would love to know what all the baffled bystanders thought was happening. Tysm to Belgium Bear Pride for inviting me to talk about my research!

Looking west across Figueroa St from south of 5th St #DTLA. I like the contrast between the two quaintly modest 3-story hotels on Figueroa with the magnificence of the Art Deco Richfield Tower on Flower St that was still a distinct part of the LA skyline in 1950. ("now" photo June 2024)

Von Hertzen Brothers 10.10.2026 Musiikkitalo, Helsinki VHB:n nopeasti loppuunmyyty 25-vuotisjuhlakeikka yhdessä Vantaan viihdeorkesterin ja Vaskivuoren lukion kuoron kanssa. Valtavan hienoja sovituksia ja yllättäviä kappalevalintoja. Unohtumaton ilta.

The Library of the Academy of Sciences in Lisbon, Portugal. Today: one of Lisbon’s most beautiful libraries opens its doors for a candlelit concert featuring the music of Vivaldi.

Looking west on 3rd St toward Hill St, #DTLA 1901. We can see the newly opened 3rd Street Tunnel. (March 1901) This photo is so early that Angels Flight funicular hadn’t been built yet—but it wouldn’t be long. Angels Flight opened on December 31, 1901. ("now" photo October 2025)
