The Wine Market at Jussieu (1872) is one of Cézanne’s rare Parisian scenes — a view of the vast Halle aux Vins, the wine warehouse complex later demolished to make way for the Sorbonne’s Jussieu campus. It now stands as a record of a vanished landmark.

'Cast Shadows,' (1891) is the perfect example of Emile Friant's paintings during the late 19thC, the majority show a sympathetic theme that stresses devotion and personal reflection, a specific meaning or mood akin to some religious works by William Bouguereau.

In Vision After the Sermon (1888), Gauguin sets Breton women against an unreal red ground and presents Jacob wrestling the angel as a visionary scene. The painting’s flat color, simplified forms, and sharp contours make it a major early statement of Synthetism.
