To the book readers in the Discord, have you ever read a book that was 2 different genres at the same time but in different stories? I got the idea today while in the shower that I would write a fictional book that followed the life and conflict of a typical person throughout a specific time frame, but in the background there would be a completely separate story going on that would be depicted on the TV, newspapers, idle conversations, and so forth. Like the book would be about a man and his bad luck with almost like a comedic twist where his love live, career, and family life were just comically bad while in the background of the world there's a huge activity going on like a superhero is protecting the world which leads up to a massive battle at the end for the superhero against an alien race but the main character only sees it from the sidelines and only in pieces. The idea is that the man's so focused on his own life he's oblivious to the other story but the reader is able to recognize it. At the end the main character witnesses the final battle from his perspective and when it's over goes on with his day. I would format the layout and telling of the story in a way so that if readers say read pages 20, 30, 50, 60, 80, etc... those pages would be exclusively dedicated to the background story so it'd be like a little short story within a novel. Thoughts?
