This morning at Beakes and 5th, agents sealed off a car with multiple vehicles, approached with guns drawn, extracted the driver, and took him into custody. This high risk action occurred without notice to, or cooperation of, the City of Ann Arbor or AAPD. We do not have information about the arrest preparation or the driver’s identity, history, or current whereabouts. High risk, dangerous actions, such as occurred today on Beakes/5th, without notice or explanation, are designed to create fear and to intimidate. ICE’s indiscriminate, intentional violation of constitutional rights and law enforcement practices has broken trust. ICE commits violence, lawlessness, and racial profiling. It is an agency that cannot be redeemed and must be abolished.
