With the story arcs, I decide how they will be spread across chapters. Then, I go into each chapter and make a synopsis with approximately five pieces which I call "scenes," misusing the term. I also put a 5-6 word summary in the chapter title. None of this is visible to the reader so far.

Then in each chapter I write out the individual scenes with 5-6 word summaries for the titles. At this point I have a short form version of the book and I can do a read through and make adjustments.
