“I’m glad to see an on-time budget that successfully addresses the multibillion dollar deficit left behind by Mayor Adams’ gross mismanagement while strengthening essential services. Statement reads:

“Allowing states to bar transgender girls from sports targets a basic tenet of childhood: the freedom to play.

Sports are a source of community and joy. Excluding an already vulnerable population from youth sports threatens their physical, mental, and social well-being. Make no mistake; this action is not about science or protection. It is an expression of bigotry.

The repercussions of this decision extend beyond the students that will be torn away from the teams that they love. The Trump administration aims to erase transgender experience from the public sphere, creating a climate in which transgender youth are isolated and vilified.

We won’t fall into this divisive trap. Transgender youth belong, like every other child. They and their families deserve to know that. My office will continue to fight for every young person’s right to dignity, safety, and community.”

Statement reads:

“The Supreme Court’s rejection of the Trump administration’s attack on birthright citizenship is an important affirmation of our constitution.

The fact that this case was even before the Supreme Court is yet another demonstration that this administration’s bigotry is far stronger than their respect for foundational constitutional principles. If they had it their way, they would have destabilized millions of lives and torn apart families across our country, just as they have done through draconian immigration enforcement and now threaten to do with the withdrawal of Temporary Protected Status.

My parents came to this country because it pledged liberty, opportunity, and a better life for their children. That promise has drawn generations of families whose stories are inseparable from the story of this nation, building communities, shaping culture, and fueling our economy. As a sanctuary city, and a city of immigrants, New York City will always uphold that promise.”
