This is what illiterate people do when they try to cut waste and have no clue about progress. This administration's illiteracy will take years to over come.
"Overhead" or indirect costs fund things that are critical for research but cannot be funded directly through grants: - Building (and maintaining) physical lab space - Hiring staff - Buying equipment (from pencils/staples to major computing resources) There is no doing research without that stuff.
This will destroy my home town. I don’t work directly for the research university, but in any city or town with one it is likely the largest employer and key engine of local monetary velocity. He is tearing apart a system he’s ignorant of & causing a cascading economic collapse to “own the libs.”
My intuition agrees, and we all know where the most impactful research univerties are located.
It is a low form of management to make decisions without understanding the details of the course of action or the impact of the chosen path forward.
