The consequences of the government's overreach will be severe and long-lasting. Research that the government has put in jeopardy includes efforts to improve the prospects of children who survive cancer, to understand at the molecular level how cancer spreads throughout the body, to predict the spread of infectious disease outbreaks, and to ease the pain of soldiers wounded on the battlefield. As opportunities to reduce the risk of multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's disease, and Parkinson's disease are on the horizon, the government is slamming on the brakes. The victims will be future patients and their loved ones who will suffer the heartbreak of illnesses that might have been prevented or treated more effectively. Indiscriminately slashing medical, scientific, and technological research undermines the nation's ability to save American lives, foster American success, and maintain America's position as a global leader in innovation.
WHAT IS OPERATION SAFETY VALVE? We live in a state where dissent is drafted, edited, and scripted before it even comes to fruition. Protests are permitted, fenced and filmed - creating ideal surveillance and intelligence gathering opportunities for the state. These gatherings are designed to allow some dissent, so as long as it doesn't jeopardize the state's ability to control the pressure valve. Operation Safety Valve isn't a document you'll find in a FOIA document request (at least for now), yet it is a real tactic that has been utilized to prevent revolutionary movements. The state and its loyalists will allow a certain level of dissent - and even manufacture it (ie. ColntelPro), because they know that controlled dissent is much less dangerous than revolution. The state has learned from history. It no longer needs batons to squash resistance - the 50501 protests proved that. The state coiled itself around the movement - crushing the resistance through pacification, praises, reframing, funding, and infiltration.
