Text: The observation itself changes the probability function discontinuously; it selects of all possible events the actual one that has taken place. Since through the observation our knowledge of the system has changed discontinuously, its mathematical representation also has undergone the discontinuous change and we speak of a "quantum jump." When the old adage "Natura non facit saltus" is used as a basis for criticism of quantum theory, we can reply that certainly our knowledge can change suddenly and that this fact justifies the use of the term "quantum jump."

Text: Similarly, it is a safe bet that long before the year 2000, the CRT screen as we know it today will be a thing of the past. The Japanese have already developed thin flat video screens based on liquid crystal technology, which they are marketing as TV watches in this country and huge wall-sized screens in Japan. It may very well be that by the year 2000 even the notion of a screen at all will be obsolete, replaced by some kind of holographic projection, but it is a virtual certainty that long before the century is over, home computer owners will be able to display not only data and graphics but full moving video images on anything from their walls and ceilings to tiny screens worn on the wrist. Text: A Good Bad Woman, which tells the story of the return home of a former burlesque performer and street prostitute , was one of the plays that brought the crisis to a head. Text: Although the Pythagorean theorem has been proved with algebra and geometry, mathematicians previously thought that it couldn’t be proved using trigonometry.
