Statement from the Stop DOL Cuts Coalition, April 22, 2026: "Former Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer’s blatant abuse of power and failure to uphold the values of the government agency charged with protecting workers demonstrates just how little this administration cares about workers across the country. Under Chavez-DeRemer, the Department of Labor has dismantled protections for American workers, repealing more than 60 workplace rules meant to protect workers’ pay, health and safety, and working conditions, and Chavez-DeRemer turned the Department’s social media into a platform for white nationalist-coded propaganda."

In its report, Education called for work to begin immediately on “rebuilding the grants” at receiving agencies. Immigration is an issue that is personal to me because my great-grandmother’s family left Mexico and entered the United States legally to pursue the American Dream. I want to ensure future generations are afforded the same opportunities that my family has had and recognize the important role immigration plays in benefitting our society and strengthening our workforce and economy. We are a proud nation of immigrants. Unfortunately, we have an ongoing humanitarian crisis at the southern border that has created dangerous and life-threatening conditions for migrants. That’s why I have helped introduce commonsense, bipartisan legislation like the Dignity Act and the Defending Borders, Defending Democracies Act, which would both help fix our broken immigration system while improving border security. Although a bipartisan immigration bill never reached the House floor, I would welcome an opportunity to consider an immigration and border security package that has been negotiated by both parties.

Laura Strickler and Nnamdi Egwuonwu Two former Department of Labor officials condemned Trump's decision to fire Bureau of Labor Statistics Commissioner Erika McEntarfer following the release of a revised jobs reportg today that suggested a slow down in hiring. Trump accused McEntarfer, without evidence, of manipulating the hiring data to make him look bad. Former Biden Labor Secretary Julie Su told NBC News that McEntarfer's termination suggests Trump "hates facts." "Donald Trump hates facts, so he blames truth tellers. But he can’t hide from the terrible damage that his chaotic and ego driven mess of an economic agenda is causing," Su said. “This president does not believe in independent agencies.
