Each single beam represents one of the 14 women who were killed in the Ecole Polytechnique massacre, December 6, 1989. At 5:10 p.m., the time the first shots were fired on Dec. 6, 1989, the 14 beams will be illuminated one by one, every few seconds, as the names of the 14 women are called out.
