A code comment reading: "Left alone, this would always resize all matching gaps while keeping the left edge of the whole sequence stationary. But it's more intuitive (and works better for the drag interaction) if we keep the left edge of the edited dimension stationary, so that the items to the left of it move in one direction, and the items to the right move in the other direction. In our diagram: if user edits & dimension (there is a detailed and dare i say quite lovely ascii art diagram explaining the logic at this point in the comment) To handle this shift, we find the last translation before the gap we're currently editing, and subtract it from all translations."
