You’ll be happy to know the exhibit at the Split Rock lighthouse about this wreck both names names and is very specific about the bad-assery.
The Madeira was a schooner barge, it was capable of sailing by itself but was usually just towed by another ship. On Nov 28, 1905 it was being towed by the William Edenborn. A major storm hit and either the tow line broke or the captain of the William Edenborn cut it, depending on who you asked.
