Looking up you see the balustrade on top of Temple Newsam, an historic house in Leeds/Britain. It features a long inscription in capital letters. The photo shows the word 'peace'. The whole text is: All Glory And Praise Be Given To God The Father The Son And Holy Ghost On High Peace On Earth Good Will Towards Men Honour And True Allegiance To Our Gracious King Loving Affection Amongst His Subjects Health And Plenty Be Within This House". The guidebook to the house says:"This is probably the longest external inscription of any house in Britain and serves to enliven an otherwise dull skyline". This very respectable text was the idea of Sir Arthur Ingram, who bought the house in 1622. Sir Arthur was considered a ruthless business man and he didn’t enjoy the best reputation among his Peers. He was notorious in Yorkshire for evading payment and at one stage was on the receiving end of no fewer than 21 lawsuits. For some balance: Ingram also built almshouse known as Ingram's Hospital in 1629/30. The almshouse provided for ten poor widows. Bonus info: much earlier, in 1545, Henry Stuart, Lord Darnley, who married Mary, Queen of Scots, was born at Temple Newsam.

authentic child-size Imperial Midget Racer, featuring a two-stroke petrol engine capable of reaching well over 30 mph. It was a gift for Prince Charles, who celebrated his seventh birthday in November 1955. It has a white body and red and blue shapes stripes. the seat is blue. A large number 1 is printed in red on the back side of the car. The name "HRH Prince Charles" is handpainted on the front side. An adjacent sign reads: 'American Style Imperial 1.The car is on on display at the Sandringham Estate Museum at Sandringham House, Norfolk/UK

A view of the Marble Hall with the stairs, the columns and a part of the ceiling. The very idea of the hall is based on a Roman temple. The splendid colonnade was copied from the Temple of Fortuna Virilis. The coffered, 50 feet high ceiling was inspired by the Pantheon. The statues around the hall are copies of Greek and Roman Gods. It is believed that Thomas Coke, 1. Earl of Leicester, who had the house and its hall built, was inspired to choose a theme from classical antiquity while being on the Grand Tour and studying architecture in Rome between 1712 and 1718. The design is credited to architect William Kent. Sadly, architect and builder both died before the hall was finished. The Earl's widow, Lady Margaret, oversaw its completion in 1764. The total cost of the construction of Holkham is thought to have been in the region of £90,000, about 14,192,000 pounds in today‘s terms, making it the most expensive country house built in Britain in the 18th century. By the way: though known as the 'Marble Hall', it is actually constructed from Staffordshire and Derbyshire alabaster.

On 17 August 1779, under captain Charles de Bernard de Marigny and along with Gentille, she captured the 64-gun third rate HMS Ardent after posing as a British frigate but then hoisting French colors and firing several unanswered broadsides into the larger vessel. On 13 September 1780, under Lieutenant Kergariou Locmaria, she captured the 18-gun naval sloop HMS Rover after an overnight chase and a fierce firefight that destroyed Rover's rigging. A time capsule was buried in the grounds of Castle Howard in North Yorkshire on 17th November 1982 by George Howard, then chairman of the British Broadcasting Corporation. It is scheduled to remain sealed and not be opened until the year 3982.

View of the dome of Wimpole Hall’s Yellow Drawing Room with the gasolier in about the center of the photo. From this angle, the gasolier looks like a black sphere with glass-drops chains wrapped around it. As a matter of fact, this is just perspective. A gasolier has the typical chandelier features, however, it has the shade pointing upward, and is usually wider them a standard chandelier to accommodate the gas jet. The gasolier was fuelled directly from the estate gaswork. For this piece it is supposed that the lights were lit using a design by scientist Johann Wolfgang Dobereiner whereby the gas ignites automatically when passed over a black platinum nipple. The controls for regulating the flow of gas are located in the doorway to the Inner Hall.
A red rose blossom in the summer sun
we look inside a cellar-like room beneath the flagstones. An electric bulbs shines into the room and on some pennies lying on the ground. It is said that the strong room had been re-discovered only in 1994 - alas, it had been empty then. It probably was used to store the family silver.
A tenple in Greek style seen from the foot of the specially-built mound, and surrounded by the lush greenery of trees and a meadow . The small building is from 1763. It had an added bonus: a rotating seat in the middle, allowing you to take in the views across the gardens from any angle. Unfortunatelly, this feature is lost today.

Chandelier with 8 branches, each one is decorated with iceicle drops. The top piece features two gilded crowns. Karl Friedrich Schinkel (1781 – 1841) was a Prussian architect, city planner and painter who also designed furniture and stage sets. Schinkel was a leader in the International Neoclassical and Gothic Revival movements. His style is defined by a turn to Greek rather than Imperial Roman architecture, an attempt to turn away from the style that was linked to the recent French occupiers. The chandelier on the photo is located in the Catherine Room of the Palace of Eutin.
