In a supernatural ghost-hunting novel, the male lead Shi Qi is ruthless and cold. Ning Meng, equipped with a System, transmigrates into the book. The first time, she becomes the nainai of the seven-year old male lead and transforms his miserable childhood. The second time, she becomes the deskmate of the seventeen-year-old male lead. The third time, the love rival of the twenty-one-year-old male lead. Each time she conceals her true identity, and each time, through some accident, she dies in Shi Qi’s arms. From childhood, Shi Qi has kept a secret little diary recording his nainai‘s quirks. Later, he discovers that this false grandmother was actually a wild ghost possessing her body. When he grows up, he notices every one of those same quirks reappearing in a certain person around him… He pretends he knows nothing — until Ning Meng dies in his arms yet again. In his panic, Shi Qi waits seven years, and when at last she enters the story in her own body, he tears off the mask entirely. The writing is sweet and warm, the supernatural elements light. The male and female leads share tender, affectionate interactions. She is terrified of ghosts; he commands them. Together they grow closer through small ghost-catching adventures. At the end of each chapter, the male lead’s adorable little diary entries reveal his shifting personality and deepening feelings — ingeniously conceived, and wildly imaginative.
Ji Xiong and Su Jin’er exchanged shocked glances. The Poison Doctor and Shura Palace were already difficult to handle. Now they had to add Ouyang Feifan, who should have been on their side? Their odds of winning had become even slimmer. But regardless, today they had to fight with their backs to the water1 — the consequences otherwise were not something they could bear. Xuanyuan Jue hadn’t spoken since the beginning. He simply pressed his lips together, those deep eyes seeming to pierce through hearts as they fixed on the veiled Su Jin’er. Then he raised his slanted brows: “Imperial Consort Su, since you’ve come, why hide behind a veil?” The veiled Su Jin’er froze, then laughed coldly at him. Since he’d already guessed it was her, why beat around the bush? Her slender jade fingers grasped a corner of the veil, then with a flick, the veil left her face, revealing her seductive features. “Your Highness the Crown Prince, what keen eyes indeed,” Su Jin’er said, then gazed at Xuanyuan Jue with an ambiguous smile. “Or is it that Your Highness cannot forget our past feelings, which is why you recognized me at a glance?”
“Nothing. It must have been the wind.” Chu Yifan and the three Ouyang siblings exchanged glances. It seemed the person they were waiting for had appeared. “Your Majesty, tonight we’ll perform the final, complete detoxification for Her Majesty the Empress. It requires a quiet atmosphere and will take considerable time. Please return to rest. By tomorrow morning, you’ll see the Empress fully restored to health,” Chu Yifan said to the Emperor. They needed to send the Emperor away first before they could proceed with their plan. “No. I must stay by the Empress’s side. I want to be the first person she sees when she wakes.” The Emperor shook his head. Seeing this, Chu Yifan could only exchange a glance with Xuanyuan Jue, meaning: this is on you.

“Jin’er, tell me — who exactly is the enemy? How could they be so formidable?” His deep eyes regarded Su Jin’er. Perhaps it was because they didn’t know their enemy that Shaochu had met with trouble. Understanding the enemy now would let them know themselves and their foe1, winning every battle, and devise a plan to rescue Shaochu. Su Jin’er shook her head, her pretty brows also furrowed tightly. “I’m not entirely sure. I only know they’re people the Crown Prince brought from outside the palace. They’re both very young — one appears to be seventeen or eighteen, one only seven or eight. Yet they could identify the poison I used. They must be quite formidable.” Damn it. She hadn’t expected that just as her plan was about to succeed, two powerful troublemakers would appear. Xuanyuan Jue, just you wait. We’ll settle all accounts eventually. Her narrow peach-blossom eyes narowed, revealing a violent gleam that made Su Jin’er look quite terrifying at this moment. “Seventeen or eighteen? Seven or eight?” Ji Xiong also furrowed his brows, thinking about which two figures in jianghu might match this description. Suddenly, a flash of realization crossed his mind. He looked at Su Jin’er in alarm.
“Who says it’s useless?” Chu Yifan suddenly spoke. His narrow, deep purple eyes swept over his little disciple whose eyes had reddened slightly, and his handsome brows couldn’t help furrowing, as if a pain in his chest ached along with the doll’s pain. He didn’t want the doll to be said. “Master–” Ouyang Qingcheng looked at Chu Yifan. Though she tried to remain calm, her slight trembling betrayed her excitement. “Young Master Chu, can you heal the wounds on Elder Brother’s face?” Ouyang Juese looked at him even more excitedly. Ouyang Feifan was also startled. Was there still hope? Did this face really still have hope? Hearing Chu Yifan’s words, he felt both excited and afraid of disappointment again, his heart unsettled.
“Mistress–“ Suddenly, a maid in light blue palace attire walked in. “Did you find out? What did you discover?” Su Jin’er rushed forward, gripping the little maid’s arms and asking excitedly. She needed to understand what was happening. She absolutely couldn’t let her carefully laid plans be ruined. The little maid was shaken so hard she nearly fell apart. She quickly spoke up to stop her mistress’s frenzy.
“Do you want to see?” Ji Shaochu asked again, his gaze heavy upon them. If one looked carefully, one would notice his hands resting on his knees were trembling slightly — an honest reflection of his true feelings. Ouyang Juese pressed her lips together, an inexplicable light crossing her clear, water-like eyes. Then she smiled slightly: “Young Master Ji, I’m sure you have your reasons for not showing your true face. As for whether to see what’s beneath your mask — it’s not important. I believe you’re a friend worth having.” Ji Shaochu paused. He hadn’t expected such an answer from Ouyang Juese. Was she trying to preserve his dignity? Or had she guessed he might have a disfigured face?
The palace maids exchanged glances, wondering what relationship these two beauties had with the Crown Prince. Though the little beauty was still too young, and the other beauty seemed to have appeared suddenly, both were simply too beautiful. “You may withdraw,” Ouyang Qingcheng said to the maids who were secretly studying them. “Yes,” the maids curtsied gracefully and left. After the maids departed, only the two sisters remained in the vast palace hall. Morning breeze swept in through the open carved wooden windows, carrying the freshness of flowers and the fragrance of earth, lifting their spirits. Ouyang Juese gazed at her sister in her pink dress. That tender little face had lost its former liveliness, shrouded now in a layer of cool mist. Her once-small stature had grown considerably. Tears welled in her eyes — a mixture of emotion and sorrow.
Chu Yifan watched Ji Shaochu and noticed his expression suggested he had something to say. He released his pressure points and raised his slanted brows: “You’ve suffered a severe blow to the head, causing you to lose some memories. If you’ve remembered something now, ask whatever you want to ask.” He had a strange feeling that this bronze-masked man might also have some connection to the Ouyang sisters. Ji Shaochu stopped trying to recall those images, and his headache naturally subsided. He looked at Ouyang Juese and asked: “You just said the three of you siblings were being chased. Why?” Ouyang Juese and Ouyang Qingcheng exchanged glances, both curious why Ji Shaochu was asking about their affairs.
Chu Yifan was astonished. He hadn’t expected the sister the doll had been searching for to suddenly appear before them. It was truly unexpected. Ji Shaochu also stared blankly at the tearful Ouyang Juese. But what confused him more was that watching Ouyang Juese and the white-clad little girl, he too felt his heart ache, along with another irrepressible surge of emotion. As if he shared their feelings. He even began to wonder if they were the woman and child who kept appearing in his mind. “Sister–“ Ouyang Qingcheng stared blankly at Ouyang Juese. Her tender little face showed no particular expression. The person she’d been searching for had suddenly appeared, yet she didn’t know how to react. Though only a few steps separated them, it felt as if some force kept them from coming together. “Qingcheng, you’ve suffered so much.”
Ji Shaochu said to Ouyang Juese. The imperial palace wasn’t a place one could freely enter and leave. One mistake, and it could cost them their lives. “Why can’t I go?” Ouyang Juese looked at Ji Shaochu. “Or does Young Master Ji think your current condition allows you to face the poisoner alone?” “You–” Ji Shaochu couldn’t deny her words were correct, but they wounded his pride. “Young Master Ji, let me go with you. Consider it repayment for saving me last time,” Ouyang Juese continued. “That place isn’t somewhere just anyone can go,” Ji Shaochu furrowed his brows.
