Sorry for the mass ping, but given the significance of the day, I felt it important to speak to everyone for a minute. I know emotions are running high for most, if not all, of us today. Many of us are angry, frightened, and in some cases downright panicked. First and foremost, I want to say that your feelings and fears are valid, and real. None of us know what the next four years will bring, but we know that in a lot of ways, it will probably be a step backward in the safety and visibility of a good many of the people who populate the Speakeasy, our families and friends. Today, simply put, sucks. But I wanted to take a minute to talk about some other things that happened in the last 24 hours. Many of our friends published chapters of trans and gay fiction. Even some smut. People read it, enjoyed it, laughed at it, cried with it. People of all genders and orientations met in our NSFW channels and enjoyed each other's company to mutual benefit. A 45-year-old trans woman who was shier than a 13-year-old on a first date shared a selfie in a dress for the first time ever and was met with a barrage of overwhelming love and support that lasted for more than eight hours. While many of us in the US have the day off for Martin Luther King Day, several of us got up, dressed cute, and went to work out and proud as the beautiful, brave women they are. All that to say, the enemy may be at the gate, but, our lives have gone on. We are still who we are, and while our fight may get harder in the days and months to come, our spines get stronger with each new friendship we forge, every egg we crack, and every hug shared among the ever-growing sisterhood that exists here. There are over 150 incredible, fierce, courageous, inspiring, brilliant, giving, loving, gorgeous, resilient trans women and allies of all ages, races, creeds and backgrounds who have gathered in this place together to love and laugh with each other. That WILL NOT be taken from us. Not today. Not EVER.

Stupid me, I thought I’d earned it, and I was finally proud of myself, and I was finally gonna get the chance to show you what I’ve made of myself, and maybe, just maybe, make you proud of me, too! “You’ll never know what it’s like, spending twelve hours cold and wet huddled in a glass phone booth to get out of the rain, and feeling like you’re on fucking display while you’re falling apart. It’s an awful lot of fucking time with nowhere to go and nothin’ to do but think about the fact that the dream was never real and nobody fucking wants you, okay?! Imagine finally falling asleep on a park bench, for the first time in three days, and waking up an hour later to some smelly drunk guy’s hands on you, and knowing it’s all happening to you because neither of the two people who fucking made you think you’re worth anything at all! It’s one thing to be in trouble and feel like nobody can help you, and another thing entirely to know that it ain’t worth bothering to ask, because you know nobody wants to!"
