This image is a figure from the Wastewater SCAN surveillance data dashboard. It depicts average concentrations of influenza A H5 in wastewater specimens collected at participating sites across the State of California over the past 12 months, by date of specimen collection. Data is normalized using PPMoV concentrations and is displayed as a smoothed trendline. Minimal virus was detected in wastewater samples through September. Concentrations increased sharply in October, peaked in November before declining in December and January. By February 2025, levels of influenza A H5 viral particles had returned to minimal/undetectable.
