Sisyphus, to Minos: Aren’t you tired of reasoning with the angels? Don’t you want to go apeshit?
I think my main criticism tho is the lack of a satisfying conclusion to the themes it presents. It tries to be a movie that views this mythological story through a human lense; humans grow to disrespect and uselessly fight their fellow man for selfishness, blame others and gods for their own follies and are their own downfall. And to support this, the gods don’t actually physically show up, their presence is manifested through acts of nature and prophecy and magic. But that’s the thing, you’re trying to present a human centric story in a world where magic, cyclopses, witches, and gods exist and have their own motivations and character that affect humans, but aren’t given the agency as actual characters. There’s something to say that the “human” side of the story can represent the harm and mistake we choose to do to each other and ourselves, while the “magic” part represents the times in life where things happen out of our control. But I don’t think the movie naturally reaches a conclusion that unifies those ideas together and say something about it because ultimately Nolan is adapting the Odyssey and he has to portray the ending that wasn’t written with those themes in mind but overall I do really like the movie and the production, the way it’s shot, etc. despite that gripe
