An Email from Congressman John Garamendi that reads: Thank you for contacting me to express your concerns regarding the Kids Internet and Digital Safety Act (KIDS) Act (H.R.7757). I appreciate the time you took to share your thoughts with me and welcome the opportunity to respond. As you know, the KIDS Act would mandate that online platforms establish new safeguards for minors including limiting access to specified adult material, providing parental controls on online platforms, and requiring artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots to disclose certain information to users who are minors. This legislation would also require studies and reports on the effects of social media on children to better understand how this technology is changing our children’s lives. The influence of technology on our children’s lives is undeniable. Having raised six children and welcomed fourteen grandchildren into the world, I know how important it is to protect our kids from online harm. I am committed to advocating for policies that safeguard and prioritize the safety of our children. I took time to consider the concerns raised by opponents of this bill, but I voted for the KIDS Act because I believe it is the best chance in this Congress to better protect children from online harms. Our nation’s children are exposed to more concerning content online every year, and we cannot wait to take action. Thank you again for contacting me about this important issue.
