55 Years of the Star Trek BASIC Game In 1971, high school student and Star Trek fan Mike Mayfield wrote a computer game based on the TV show for he and his friends to enjoy. In the years since, his Star Trek game has spread across the globe, been reworked and expanded upon, and heavily influenced several commercial games. This panel looks at Star Trek fanworks and fandom at the time Mayfield wrote his game, how it spread, how it impacted future games and even a bit on some of the other Trek fan games from the same time period, none of which have had the same legacy or longevity as this one.
