Text of two Threads posts about firing a long-term employee which is apparently supposed to sound heartwarming: I work in corporate HR. Yesterday, I had to conduct a exit interview with an employee who had been with the company for fifteen years. He was a quiet, unassuming data analyst who never made waves, never complained, and was always just "there." I asked him the standard question: "What will you miss most about working here?" He paused, looked out the window for a long time, and said, "For twelve years, I arrived at 7:00 AM... Every single day, the security guard at the front desk, Marcus, would look up and say, 'Good morning, Mr. Davis. Glad you're here today.' My wife passed away a decade ago. Some days, Marcus was the only person who used my name out loud." It made me realize how much of our institutional stability relies on people whose names never appear on an organizational chart. We spend so much time optimizing systems, but we completely forget about the human glue holding them together.
