Yes, it can also be a somewhat painful tool, both for maintainer workloads and just from a "it keeps finding embarrassing bugs" standpoint. But the solution is not to put your head in the sand and sing "La La La, I can't hear you" at the top of your voice like some people seem to do. The solution is to make sure those LLM tools _help_ maintainers instead of just causing them pain. There's no question on that side. We're not forcing anybody to use it, but I will very loudly ignore people who try to argue against other people from using it. And no, AI isn't perfect. But Christ, anybody who points to the problems at AI had better be looking in the mirror and pointing at themselves at the same time. Because it's not like natural intelligence is always all that great either. The kernel project has been and will continue to be about the technology.
Earlier this week, we detected and responded to an intrusion into part of our production infrastructure. This one was different from anything we had handled before in one important way: it was driven, end to end, by an autonomous AI agent system - and we detected and dissected it largely with AI of our own. We identified unauthorized access to a limited set of internal datasets and to several credentials used by our services. We are still completing our assessment of whether any partner or customer data was affected, and we will contact any affected parties directly as required. We have found no evidence of tampering with public, user-facing models, datasets, or Spaces, and our software supply chain (container images and published packages) was verified clean.
A variety of standards are beginning to emerge, and Innovation Labs has proposed DNSid, a system to create identities for agents and link each one to an existing internet domain name, using cryptographic proofs to log its registration over time. Innovation Labs’ interim CEO Allie Kline says the company is trialing the standards with several unnamed hyperscalers and identity companies.

Design so the user gains judgment and control. Design for the person managing the agent, not for the agent replacing the person. Put the human at the center: they set the objective, they review the work, they own the result. And default to the user owning what matters: the agent’s identity, memory, skills, artifacts, and history. This is not just about building for the better future, it’s also the better strategy. There are orders of magnitude more people who have never interacted with an agent than there are superusers of Claude Code. If you’re an AI startup going into sales calls telling execs that you’re going to replace their team with agents - stop. If you’re an executive asking an overeager startup founder how their agents can replace your team - stop. This leads nowhere good . Even if it could work, is that the future you want to build?

Grok allowed the man to generate extreme images depicting incest and rape without flagging any harmful behavior, the complaint said. Seemingly, xAI’s child safety system only intervened after the man input a prompt for “gang rape.” That request sent a CyberTip to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), which alerted law enforcement to the AI CSAM. Yet the harm was not stopped then, either. Despite mandatory reporting requirements to share information like a user’s IP address when CSAM is flagged, xAI repeatedly refused to help cops or NCMEC identify the user, the complaint alleged. For weeks, xAI allegedly “obstructed this investigation at every turn” and made it harder for “law enforcement efforts to locate, identify, and apprehend the perpetrator.””

First, the whole point of being a good software engineer in the 2010s was that code provided enough leverage to automate away other jobs. That’s why programming was (and still is) such a lucrative profession. The fact that we’re automating away our own industry is probably some kind of cosmic justice. But I think any working software engineer today is worrying about this question: what will be left for me to do, once AI agents have fully diffused into the industry? The other reason it’s unseemly is that I’m probably going to be one of the last to go. As a staff engineer, my work has looked kind of like supervising AI agents since before AI agents were a thing: I spend much of my job communicating in human language to other engineers, making sure they’re on the right track, and so on. Junior and mid-level engineers will suffer before I do. Why hire a group of engineers to “be the hands” of a handful of very senior folks when you can rent instances of Claude Opus 4.6 for a fraction of the price?

What if the key you're supposed to share with the world is the only thing an attacker needs to impersonate any user on your system - including admin? That's what we found in pac4j-jwt, a widely used Java authentication library. CVE-2026-29000 has been assigned to this vulnerability with a CVSS score of 10.0 Critical. A complete authentication bypass. An attacker with nothing more than your server's RSA public key - the key that's designed to be public - can forge a JWT token with arbitrary claims and authenticate as any user, with any role, without knowing a single secret. The patch is now live. The maintainer, Jérôme Leleu, confirmed, patched, and published a security advisory crediting our research. If you use pac4j-jwt, stop reading and update: 4.x line: upgrade to 4.5.9 or newer 5.x line: upgrade to 5.7.9 or newer 6.x line: upgrade to 6.3.3 or newer
Cisco has issued an urgent security advisory for a critical vulnerability affecting its Secure Firewall Management Center (FMC) software. This flaw, rated with the maximum possible score of the 10.0, allows remote, unauthenticated attackers to execute arbitrary code and gain complete root level control over the affected system. The vulnerability exists in the web-based management interface of Cisco secure FMC. The flaw stems from insecure deserialization of a user-supplied Java byte stream, allowing attackers to send a specially crafted serialized Java object to the web interface to exploit it. If successful, the exploit allows the attacker to run arbitrary Java code in the underlying operating system. Because the code executes with root-level privileges, the attacker could gain total control over the management device.
