Miyamoto: Yoshi's Island used that 100-point perfectionist system, right? The development staff did that because they loved it, but I don't actually like that approach very much. Still, when I see players getting completely hooked on it, there's a part of me that concedes and thinks, "Well, I guess this works too." It's not that we are shackled by the preferences of our audience, but we are quite earnest. We diligently build things up piece by piece and gather user feedback.

A BEITONG Pangu Modular Game Controller, looking like your standard, modern game controller, except the control sticks and control pad have been replaced with four face buttons each. We're looking at 16 face buttons, not counting the regular Start and Select-style buttons. And then they littered the desk with way too many spare sticks and directional pads, just because. You could make a Virtual Boy controller out of this thing! No one could stop you!
In a recent interview with GameSpot, you mentioned that there was certain content that was cut from the original game that you wanted to put into the Director's Cut. You were told once again by the publisher that the content was too explicit to include in the game. Do you have any examples of what that content was? Swery: The content cut from the original, was for example, the FBI Agent [York] running around the town on a bicycle. If the player kept wearing the same clothes, flies would fly around his body. If you change clothes, the flies are gone. But there was a feature with the shower to refresh. But it was cut from the original version. Finally, we didn't bring those ideas to the Director's Cut because the purpose for us to release this game is to expand the user base. We couldn't get this game to PS3 users in the Western market, so we're trying to deliver this world to PS3 owners.

An infamous Nintendo NX hoax image. Before details of the Nintendo Switch had been revealed, and the only available information was that it had been code named "NX," this silly mock-up was posted online and called a "leaked image." The device looks like a typical smart phone that's been stretched and squeezed into a long ellipse, rather than the traditional rectangular shape, with a shallow control stick jutting out of the screen on each of the long ends, a small panel that seems to contain a speaker, microphone, and power button along the bottom of the face, and a headphone jack and sticker reading "CONFIDENTIAL PROPERTY" along the edge. It is placed on a brown desk, alongside earbuds, a laptop, and an HDMI cable. The hoax was accompanied by reports that NX would rely exclusively on touch-screen buttons. More relevant to my stupid joke, there were also some claims that Nintendo had secret haptic technology that would allow virtual buttons to physically lift corresponding pixels of the touchscreen. People actually believed this stuff. It was a very stupid time, but it was also more fun than the next Nintendo console launch, in which everyone successfully predicted it would be another Nintendo Switch, but with more graphics. Not pictured: Rear Touch was a real, actual feature of Sony's PlayStation Vita, a handheld game device with a traditional touchscreen on the front and a second touch panel on the back. Rear Touch was prominently featured in numerous Vita games. The general reception was not positive.
The first 16 Google Image search results for, "phone controller handles." Every one of these images links to an online retail listing for ergonomic hand grips that firmly attach to a smart phone. Nearly half of the images include a screenshot of the type of game or application that allows players to position touch-based, virtual approximations of video game controller sticks and buttons.
