In a time when celebrity worship is a defining characteristic of fandom culture, it's easy to depict fans as hyperobsessive collectors who live and breathe their oshis. I won't say it's a completely inaccurate depiction, as someone who does her fair share of collecting and obsessing. But sometimes that depiction is all a character is allowed to be — a running gag for a comedy to rely on. Tada-Oja! does not stop at this shallow depiction; it takes the time to dig into the root of Rinko's obsession, which is her admiration for people's artistry. She idolizes her favorite mangaka and novelists because of the humanity that shines through their work. That's what she loves, and that humanity is what makes her love the person behind the work even more. Her conversation with Satsuki about his stories in Episode 11 strips away the comedy for a second to focus on her sincere feelings: This art you've created reflects who you are, and I feel so lucky to bear witness to it.
