When the artist tries to get up she feels intense pain radiating from her lower back. "Oh god!!!" she shouts in surprise.

Saiga of the Steppes PAGE 8 Panel 1 The kids crowd around the corner, pointing at the empty spot. It’s clear what patterns should go there but it has been purposefully left empty. Elya: You were working on your big masterpiece so quickly and then you stopped at this spot! Baina: Yeah, what’s supposed to go there? Panel 2 The Main character touches the shoulders of her two grandkids gently. Main character: Oh, that part? It’s not my place to say what goes there. Panel 3 She winks with a smile to her grandkids. Panel 4 The two children from behind are finally still, lost in their own worlds of imagined future hopes and dreams as the adults carry on towards the kitchen. Kids: ... Panel 5 They burst into energy with embroidery patternings around them, following the adults into the kitchen and shouting. Elya: Mooom what if I save up my allowance, then can I go to camp? Baina: Äje, can you teach me tonight!
Saiga of the Steppes PAGE 4 Panel 1 Mom turns back to her phone, annoyed but more mellow. She speaks quietly as if she knows how destructive her words are. Main Character (Narration): As the saiga fell, so too did our livelihoods as we laid down our craftwork to meet demands of our colonisers. Mom: This place is dead, and the kids would have it best getting out of here. Mom (smaller text): And why is everything so expensive these days anyway? Panel 2 The eldest of the two children softly shares something she learned in school. Main Character (Narration): That kind of exploitation extinguishes hope. But… Elya: But Mom, it’s true the saiga have returned. Panel 3 In this wide panel, her sister holds a finger to her mouth as she tried to concentrate on telling the story well. Behind her the market fades and we are on the seemingly empty steppes as the two children explain. Baina: Yeah, they taught us in school! The saiga have been near extinct for well, eons! Main Character (Narration): I looked it up. They’ve been critically endangered since 2001. Elya: But they recently came back! Panel 4 The kids are small in the corners of this panel and next as they recall things they learn at school. Here younger children, classmates of Baina, have saiga hats on and a lecturer stands in the front of the class with children presenting “Saiga Day 2024.” Baina: The saiga came back because folks were telling their story again! Panel 5 Elya continues the lecture while behind her the scene shows a camping trip her class went on where rangers and scientists showed the children the ecosystem of the steppelands. Elya: Lots of bad guys hurt the saiga and the steppes before… But now there’s lots of good guys too, scientists and rangers and stuff!

23:42. Home from pizza, we walk along for a bit in Tiergarten. "Ah, what a lovely evening!"
22:01. My friends realise the pain... "I would've thought there would be more time..." "Another hour?"
21:03. A table is set with a red candle and wine. Unseen people talk: "This is cute" "I love thin candles..." "We could summon something with it..."
20:00. We've temporarily become art (?). Two people sit in front of a strange green screen on pillows as bubbles float by
19:00. "How are the comics going?" "Well... I feel like I haven't really achieved much..."
A woman stands with her arms robotically by her sides. Narration reads: "18:12. Haus der Kulturen Welt. A lady moves through the crowd, NPC-style. Strange organ music plays. I am reminded of why I love this town. This ridiculous town and its nonsensical spaces with strange possibilities."
17:21. On the train Ami looks out the window and her and Harry talk. Narration says "On the train... This is gonna be rough. We're on the way to see..." "Do you know what this is about?" "No, I didn't read the description..." "When're the elections!?" "Good question..." At a bus stop, Ami flags down a bus.
Ami happily makes a protein shake, saying "You deserve it!" after her five minute "workout"
16:22, Ami at her desk is sobbing and saying "four already!? Oh what's in an hour, a minute?" Narration: Back home. I can't be unravelling this early!"
Ami sits on an empty clothing rack, pillars behind her of a museum atrium. Narration: "15:00. Ah, a break to wait for Harry. I hole up near some pamphlets at the Alte Museum." She thinks sadly "I'm so bad at this chisel marker, wth?"
At the doors to a museum, two people kiss. Narration: "I drop Harry off at the Neues Museum - he has a pass and anyway I have comics to write."
