Post from Joe Biden: Two hundred and fifty years ago, a group of Americans signed their names to a piece of parchment and made a promise no nation had ever made before: that we're all created equal, endowed by our Creator with unalienable rights--life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. We're the only nation in history built not on ethnicity, or blood, or geography but on an idea. That's always been what makes us exceptional. We chose that path 250 years ago but that's where the work began, not where it ended. Every generation has had to choose it again. At Valley Forge, at Gettysburg, on the beaches of Normandy, in the streets of Selma. Americans recommitted themselves to the principles on which our nation was founded. Now it's our turn. There's nothing guaranteed about our democracy. We have to fight for it, defend it, and earn it. Over and over, year after year. That's not a burden. That's what it means to be an American. 250 years in, we still haven't fully lived up to those words in the Declaration. But we've never walked away from them, and this July 4, I hope all of us can commit to one thing: that we never will. I don't believe we're as divided as we're told we are. I've bet my whole life on the American people, and I'm not stopping now. Happy 250th birthday, America. Our story isn't finished. Let's keep writing it together.

Don't dress avoidance up as holiness. Don't call silence "peacemaking." Don't light a candle and think it substitutes for showing up. Tonight an ICE agent took a photo of me next to my car, looked me in the eye and told me, "We'll be seeing you soon." Not metaphor. Not hyperbole. A threat dressed up in a badge and a paycheck. Peace isn't what you ask for when the boot is already on someone's neck. Peace is what the powerful ask for when they don't want to be interrupted. Unity isn't neutral. Unity that refuses to name violence is just loyalty to the ones holding the weapons. Stop using scripture like chloroform. Stop calling your fear "wisdom." Stop pretending Jesus was crucified because he preached good vibes and personal growth. You don't get to quote scripture like a lullaby, while injustice stays wide awake. You don't get to ask God to "Heal the land" if you won't even look at the wound. There is a kind of peace that only exists because it refuses to tell the truth. That peace is a lie. And lies don't grow anything worth saving. The scriptures you love weren't written to keep things calm. They were written to set things right. And sometimes the most faithful thing you can do is stop praying around the pain and start standing inside it. If that makes you uncomfortable-- good. Growth always is.
A post from Matt Little that reads as follows: ICE cut off her wedding ring. Sue Tincher is a 55-year-old American citizen: a grandmother, 5'4", and white. Just in case you thought you'd be safe. She walked to her neighbor's house after getting alerts that ICE was nearby. She stood across the street and asked an officer if they were ICE. They told her to "get back." She didn't move. Seconds later, they threw her to the ground, handcuffed her, and hauled her away. She spent five hours in leg shackles at a federal building. Agents cut off her wedding ring and threatened to pepper-spray her in the truck. Her husband spent all day trying to find where they'd taken her. Federal officials wouldn't tell him. Her "crime" was simply standing on a public street, watching, and asking questions. Read that again: here in Minnesota, a U.S. Citizen was arrested, restrained, and disappeared for hours, not for interfering, not for resisting, but for asking a question. If they can arrest Sue Tincher for standing on a public sidewalk, they can arrest anyone.
