Last week a flurry of Manchester- based job vacancies landed on the Cabinet Office jobs website. More than half were for videographers, social media strategists and influencers. It is easy to sneer, but Burnham is simply responding to the new political reality: there is no longer a single audience to govern. Britain's generational divide is usually framed as a fight over houses, pensions and taxes. But just as important is the slow disappearance of the shared news, events and spaces that once gave generations a common view of the world.
