It's very hard to replace SQL. Almost impossible, even. This paper by Andy Pavlo and Michael Stonebraker makes a case for how there have been numerous efforts to replace SQL, but none of them succeeded or will ever succeed in future. db.cs.cmu.edu/papers/2024/...

This paper builds upon a 20 year old paper "What Goes Around Comes Around" by Stonebraker, which also makes the same argument. So nothing really has changed since :)
