"Civil rights protect every single person. When I often speak with people who are trying to understand like, how or why is this relevant to me? Well, it can be relevant to you even if you are a white male, heterosexual, cisgender New Yorker. And we have those cases. What we're talking about is ensuring equity and equality and equal access and inclusion, right? And so I think that's something that takes a lot of people by surprise, is that it's not just about women. It's not just about Black or brown communities, it's not just about migrants. It's about everyone."

Our Bodies, Ourselves identified everything I had been conditioned not to see: the way our society accepts abuse of women, even celebrates it, the way young women in most places are taught so little about their bodies, the value of sharing knowledge and support with other people who walk through life in those bodies, the way we relax into social structures that have been designed to keep us from full happiness and comfort.
