His statement assumes all Black candidates have overcome hardship while all white candidates have had it easy. That ignores individual circumstances. There are Black candidates from privileged backgrounds and white candidates from poverty. Assuming a Black candidate is automatically “more qualified” because of their race is not only inaccurate but also condescending. He uses the word "them" collectively, and strips individuals of their uniqueness, reducing them to their racial identity. That’s ironically the very racism he claims to oppose. True equality means assessing people on merit, not predetermined assumptions about their struggles. Not all Black individuals face oppression the same way, just as not all white individuals benefit from privilege. What’s even more troubling is the virtue-signaling behind this belief. Favoring a Black candidate over a white one based purely on race does not create fairness—it reinforces discrimination under a different name. If equality is the goal, why should hiring decisions be based on race at all? Shouldn’t the most qualified person get the job based on skill, experience, and merit rather than performative “positive discrimination” that only deepens racial divisions? There’s also historical irony here. As a Jewish person (the same as the interviewer in the Morgan Freeman interview), he should understand the dangers of being treated as a collective rather than an individual. Jews have faced systemic discrimination but overcame it through resilience and self-determination, not mandated favoritism. So why apply the same flawed collectivist thinking to Black individuals—or any group? By insisting race determines qualification, he places himself in a savior role, deciding which group is “oppressed” and deserving of special treatment. This reinforces the very hierarchy he claims to oppose. True equality means removing race from the equation altogether, not inserting it under a different pretense.
