Alternate Life A timeline lost from long ago, broken by work and circumstance. Chose mostly to go with the flow rather than take a final firm stance. Pause not to look back, yet a glance to what we might have become, marching to the beat of life’s drum. @BardPharts 1 May 2026
1815 One long June day, this now famous battle. Vital deadly skirmish, promise unsaid, drifting smoke filled fields, deadly noise, great dread, these brave young soldiers on foot and saddle. Royal Horse Artillery show their strength, only today they must show their courage. Bodies of wasted lives pile on the ridge, canons hot, ready, go to any length. Eagle’s attempt to throw down Europe’s Kings, evades final island captivity, underestimate her ability, defiantly she again spreads her wings. Potatoes now grow where brave men once rode, over deep furrows where their warm blood flowed. It’s here, boys became men, men became dead, with lead shot that stings and canon that shred. Angry field guns call out loudly for death, and will take away everyone’s last breath. Every fragile empire falls through slaughter, bright future grows from those given quarter. @BardPharts 18 April 2026
Wild Harvest Wild garlic floods this forest floor, air absorbs aroma, pungent, soon, sweet white flowers we adore, fragile, bell shaped, yet triumphant. This year everywhere abundant, gather a few for our kitchen, is a family tradition. @BardPharts 20 March 2026
War War casts around great sadness, fear, indiscriminate death. These angry old men’s madness, bitter, till their last breath. They punish populations, take civilian’s bright futures, attack shy neighbour nations, plague this poor world like tumours. Money stolen from children, all spent on bombs and missiles, pockets lined crazy villain. Boiling frustration bristles. @Bardpharts 8 April 2026
Trench Light a cigarette, lean on my rifle, stare at my sodden boots that once were stout. Down here waiting, fear for my survival, behind shouts and screams a silence calls out, somewhere far off a gramophone plays. My cigarette is sweet, familiar, I recall a photo, last year’s hay making, smell of the hay, warmth of the sweat linger, old horse, dad atop the hay cart , staring, a tear’s cast for those halcyon days. I stub my cigarette out on hoarding time to clean my gun then eat, life’s fickle. We’re called to assemble, someone’s snoring. We stand around quiet, wait for the whistle. The Fern Very slowly pokes through, this pale green coil, push upward, with sky bound spring energy. Breaking the surface of the deep moist soil, prime example of nature’s synergy. Unfurl inch by inch, remarks daily toil, ever smaller parts emerge tenderly. This fragile nature so easy to spoil nature’s fractals demonstrate cleverly. Arms stretching upward into the sunshine, join a massive army on warm fell side, in awe Victorians fascination. To see them all when the weather is fine, growing in every corner country wide, we’re inspired by this wonderful creation. @BardPharts 24 February 2026

Summer’s Herald Black bird, bright chanteur noir, sits on high branch, telling serene woes we can’t even know, of his stories, of his histories staunch. Short Life This short life filled without limit, people to love, people to meet, books to read, places to visit, quaint corners, fancy meals to eat. Not without effort, lots of strife, unable to complete this task. Too much to do for one short life, an extension’s too much to ask. Sadness from inability to make heard our feeble protest. Seaside Sea touched my feet today, bare soles on sandy beach. I have come all this way to this one point I reach. Strong roller’s tail’s fine touch, refreshes my tired feet. Road Calm The car in front won’t give way. I’ve all the time in the world, in this game, these rules to play. Move back don’t wait to be spurned, stay aware each second earned, pull over let people past this is no race, none are last. Speeding fast, braking so hard, quick choices are last choices. Swerving left and right ‘en garde’, never hear swearing voices. So many things annoy us, your driving is not the worst, this is no race, none are first. @BardPharts 23 April 2026
Riverboat Paddle boat sits on tidal river mud abandoned, left to rot, under blue sky, full of hope she calmly awaits next flood to free her from bleak mooring high and dry. One Giant Leap This almost impossible mission, rocket fighting against earth’s strong pull. Round full moon and back expedition, such fine targets, such tight schedule. Brings tears to our eyes. Lost Leaders Nation’s leaders elected with our trust, desert us for hostile foreign powers. Forsake duty to allies like cowards, stand firm against this tyranny, unjust. Long Night Again sleep evades, as the church rings bright, small hours of the night. Sheep pass in parades. Quiet stillness shines, heavy quarter hours, long night devours, I count the slow chimes. Late Spring Winter’s course is now run, daffodils are near done. No one told the blackbird to move his clock forward. Dreamland That time of the morning, between wake and warm sleep, fleet dreams leave shadow faint, on memory, warming. Into new day we creep, softly, with no complaint. We strive, with no warning, missing dream, we search deep. Now failing to acquaint, images fade, morphing, for our loss we shall weep, dawn, does memories taint. Ancestors My story doesn’t start with my birth nor does it start at the beginning. how else should I measure my worth and know really whether I’m winning? Eulogy Now that I am no more, gone from this earthly plain, no action will restore, your warm tears are in vain. I hear your words of love, that guide your path of grief, take solace from above to bolster your belief. My struggle is now done, battles won, my war lost. Had adventure and fun I’m no more, payed the cost. This life’s toll has been paid, measured in years and deeds, now one last final trade, balance of life concede. This One Love Valentine’s Day is again upon us. Do I need bouquet, sweet chocolate, and card? Buying crap stuff is really not that hard, commercial trappings are more than useless. So best keep love going, twas always thus, daily over this precious love stand guard, rather than it descend and watch it marred, fade away through neglect, stand, make a fuss! Take this precious love you have, make it work, small gests bring such happiness every day, easy forgiveness and humour will out. Each day, coming home in hope with that smirk. The Lakes of Home These lakes, these bodies of water dark, gently cradled in cleft of hard fell. Whose lofty peaks in heavy cloud dwell, that anchor our soul to hardships stark. Working stone and beast in active arc, breathe deeply this faint memory’s smell. Return for the wildlife, does compel, this fauna closely encircled, hark! Where we go, what we do, matters not, we’re drawn back to our mountains of home, souls fast in jagged rocks and wetlands. We will return to our sacred plot, to once again upon wild fells roam. The King The King sits on his golden throne, looking down on his poor people, privileged, his position, alone, proud origins medieval. The King has people to command, soldiers, servants, lowly peasants, always they have much to demand, pressured? He goes to shoot pheasants. The Garden Just since yesterday this grass has grown, it’s calling yet again to be mown. Bold hedges cross their strict boundary encroaching borders, all flowery. Potent weeds growing faster than veg, I will need a lot more raw courage. But choosing plants to fill gaping gaps, making gaps to fill with plants, perhaps. Red Berries Leaves begin to lose their youthful colour, we curse dark cold nights that grow much longer and the shorter days that become duller. Protest Gas brings sore tears to these streets of protest. “Desperate times bring desperate measures” There’s students out there with their professors, till we get concessions there’ll be no rest. There’s guys with banners, some funny, some messed but they’ll be there in all kinds of weathers, to free us from our hidden oppressors and have our historic problems addressed. When governments get an evil trope and only for their own personal gain. Vote for people who support the people. We must create a new dawn, a new hope, stand up straight, finally relieve the pain. Likely Culprit It’s now in my proximity this toxic masculinity, your deemed proclivity defines your fragility. We question your virility, your social turbidity and charisma aridity, there’s really no validity. So take your negativity, damn childish insecurity, that unfortunate debility that denies femininity. Immortally Cursed If we lived forever we would see such things, from colliding worlds and the great rise of Rome, power of religion to the fall of kings.
