His ego may be hard to take, but Rickey's greatness can't be denied. When I toured the HOF 25 years ago, I saw the room with huge banners of the major record holders. At the time, Rickey had the most banners, for runs scored, stolen bases, and walks (later surpassed by Barry Bonds). Truly impressive

Rickey lived near me in Oakland the last few years of his life. It was always a thrill to see him at CVS. Super guy.

No one ever accused Ricky of being humble, and that was one of the things people loved about him. The difference between him and other braggarts was that he backed it up 100%. I grew up in the Bay Area hating the A's (still do - GO GIANTS!), but I LOVED Ricky!

I modeled every part of my game after Rickey: the crouch, headfirst slides, etc. When he'd steal 3rd without a slide or a throw, that was the best.

Loved watching that man run! And this was in the day before the MLB in its infinite stupidity and bowing down to the gambling industry, made the bases larger so easier to steal. I'm never going to be impressed by base stealing ever again. Anyone breaking his record now should get an asterisk.✌️💙⚾

Just remember, in order to steal all those bases he had to first get on base. Fortunate to have attended many A’s games in their late 80’s prime. Three bucks for a bleacher seat at midweek day games at the Colosseum. Just a short BART ride from #Berzerkeley. ⚾️⚾️⚾️ 💚💛
