WHAT A SHIT PRIDE MONTH This Pride Month has made several things only clearer: Firstly, the NHS at this time aims to harm, not help, trans people. Forcing trans people through drawn-out, degrading and discriminatory processes to get the same medications cis people do, using "gender- exploratory therapy" as conversion therapy for trans people, disrupting surgery provision for transmasculine patients, opening a "detransition pathway" while waves of GPs arbitrarily cancel HRT prescriptions - all only makes clear what we as a community already know - that they do not want us to be trans, to be ourselves, to have access. The state wants detransition, and conversion; segregation and erasure.
HANDS OFF TRANS CARE!• BASH BACK will not sit back as trans kids and adults are stripped of their dignity and bodily autonomy by the state. The treatment of all trans people seeking healthcare in the UK is a scandal. This is just one of a slew of quiet, piecemeal disruptions and removals of trans care in recent years. We will not accept this, and neither should you. BASH BACK stands in solidarity with everyone on waiting lists, having surgeries cancelled, needing surgeries not provided on fhe NHS at all, prescriptions refused, and all other forms of medical negligence we are expected to accept.
It's been a rough year. In February, we received updated draft statutory guidance on gender for schools in England that risks real harm to trans youth, with more than an echo of Section 28 [1]. In May, the UK dropped yet further in the ILGA Europe annual ratings, remaining in 22nd place of 49 but receiving a lower score than in 2025[2]. At the end of May, the EHRC released its new guidance, effectively banning trans people from areas of public life [3] and which the Lemkin Institute for Genocide Prevention has condemned as 'genocidal in nature'. [4] In healthcare, our community continues to report GPs refusing not only bridging prescriptions, shared care with private providers, and continuity of prescriptions from abroad - but even prescribing hormones on instruction from GICs [5; 6]. But nothing could have prepared us for June.

Posts expressing gender critical views and mocking trans supporters appeared on the X account of Prof Jacob George, MHRA's chief medical and scientific officer, who was only appointed last month. His account has now been deleted and the MHRA told us the Prof had been recused from the trial. Stay tuned...

Dear Martin, While we do not deny that BASH BACK activists were involved in the leaking of FSU's information, we do deny any association with the named individual prior to this injunction. The Free Speech Union's accusations against that individual are utterly baseless, and serve only to add leverage to a legal threat keeping prying eyes away from their list of funders. In doing so, and in presenting this threat to the press, they have endangered a potentially vulnerable innocent person rather than allow free and open access to their list of funders, and thus acted in defiance of the "free speech" practices they claim to uphold. On 28th July, Toni Asik - a trans man - died behind these walls after months of abuse, harassment, and discrimination from staff representing HMP Bronzefield and Sodexo. He was segregated, refused healthcare checkups despite clear suicidal thoughts and mental ill health, and routinely abused by guards for his gender identity- this along with the subtler, nascent abuse that results from the bondage and incarceration of trans people, from egregious deadnaming and misgendering, to the medical neglect that we come to expect in society. That same week, another trans prisoner in Bronzefield attempted suicide by throwing himself off of a catwalk. We are BASH BACK, a trans-led direct-action group fighting for total transgender liberation, and on the 30th August we took action against Sodexo’s office in Leeds, smashing their windows and spraying their walls. In black paint across their brickwork a simple message: “SODEXO KILLED TONI ASIK”. Four simple words that hammer home the thing everyone knew. No death in prison is voluntary, all have been carried out, systemically, by the state and the private companies they get to do the dirty work. Every death behind those walls is a murder, the perpetrators of which will likely never be held to account.
We are proud to be collaborating with @Prisoners4Palestine, the prisoner-led collective that represents those who have been detained by the British state in their struggle for Palestinian liberation. STATEMENT ON BASH BACK ACTION AGAINST SODEXO (29/08/25) On the week of the 28th of July, a trans man, Toni Asik was murdered in the Sodexo-run HMP Bronzefield. He had endured weeks of abuse because of his gender identity, constant misgendering and harassment by Sodexo staff. In the same week, an 18 year old trans man, also incarcerated in Bronzefield, attempted suicide by throwing himself off of a high railing. Sodexo and prison staff responded with aggressive 5 day lockdowns, further restrictions on prisoners' rights, and further violence against the prisoners themselves. Every death in prison is a murder. Every incarcerated trans person is a victim of the same harassment that killed Toni Asik and Taylor Atkinson, a prisoner held for 14 years under the UK's draconian IPP laws. Through the violence inherent in discrimination, misgendering, abuse, denial of HRT, and segregation from other prisoners of the same gender, the prison system is designed todehumanize, erase and kill trans prisoners. By taking action against Sodexo this week we stand in solidarity with Prisoners for Palestine, CAGE, No More Exclusions and the Anticarceral Solidarity network, in condemning the hideous abuse the prison system wreaks on its victims, and standing with all prisoners - our trans siblings, and our fellow activists, the Filton 24 (especially T. Hoxha who remains on hunger strike in HMP Peterborough as we write this) - in holding these murderers to account.
