Back in the 1990s, thieves used to break into offices, leave the computers, but steal all the RAM out of them Very portable, very expensive - and you don't need a van to make off with the stolen goods, just a backpack
When I started working in I.T. support, my PROFESSIONAL GRADE desktop was, at the time, LOADED ! 120 Meg hard drive with 4 Meg of RAM ! ( and there was no such thing as a mouse )
My 1992 Powerbook 145 had 4mb (!) of RAM, and a 40mb (!!!!) hard drive. Removable disk drives were our friends. I did some of my best writing on that machine.
My first computer had the RAM upgraded from 4k to 8k at a cost of £49 in 1979. And I thought that was costly, ½ my weekly wage.
My first computer had KBs of RAMs.
Time for software companies to make more optimized software again. 4GB honestly would still be enough for most people if every app were not built in JavaScript.
My first Mac - the LC - had 4MB of RAM, 512kb of VRAM and a 40MB hard-drive. 😊
