Wait, you mean I won't have to find the inverse matrix by hand anymore!?!? Seriously though, I generally like Cowen's writing, but the first paragraph stands out to me as uninformed? Like academics themselves can't agree on the "correct" model specification and tests, but AI just will do it better?

The idea that overseeing this stuff will be trivial or uninteresting seems wrong to me. It’s already the case that professors spend a lot of time going to meetings, responding to emails, applying for grants, and advising grad students. Yet lots of people want to be professors.
