The notion that we’ve ever had control is a myth, of course. Certainty was never actually on the table. But maybe sometimes it felt like it was, for a while, because the world moved slowly enough to fake it. Now the gap between what we were trained to expect and what we're actually facing is impossible to ignore. That gap is where the anxiety lives.
