In one example of unsafe working conditions cited by those joining the union, workers at the Berkeley location said they had to call the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to motivate upper management to fix an ongoing sewage issue in the store. Workers say that this issue was communicated actively but never addressed. Alex Reyes, union member and worker at the Berkeley location, feels lack of communication and oversight from upper management has led to a decline in store and food quality. "I've seen sewage leaks, backups, and even more recently in this cafe, the A.C. is broken as we speak," Reyes said. "We're kind of left to figure things out. Things aren't clear, and we're kind of just riffing it."
