Another fucking kiwi! What, did we all move to the same place?” “Certainly seems that way, doesn’t it?” Stede replied gleefully. “We’ve got a pretty international crowd here, well, except for Pete and Jim. Er, right? Or no? Jim?” “Eh. Technically, I guess.” Jim answered. “I’m Boricua.” “Oh, yes. Right. I was thinking citizenship,” Stede explained, “but I suppose that’s not the same as identity, is it?” Jim gave Stede a slight smile, like they were a little surprised by his response, but in a good way. Stede felt a bit of pride at navigating a potentially awkward social interaction, something that frequently tripped him up. And he didn’t embarrass himself in front of Ed, thank goodness! “So, Ed, Archie, meet Jim, John, and Frenchie. Jim’s our bassist, John is on drums, and Frenchie’s on guitar. John and Frenchie are also our costume department and John’s in charge of all pyro. We’ve got Buttons up there at the controls, he’s in charge of KARL, which I think is the name of our light show somehow? The program? I’m not sure, but he’s a whiz at it. Right, Buttons?” Stede called up to the booth. “Aye. KARL conveys his warm regards.” Buttons flicked a switch and the theater filled with warm colors. “Fucking mental,” Ed breathed, barely audible. He looked around the room, eyes wide with wonder as the reds and oranges swirled around them before fading out.
