They did it! Those crazy bastards! They made sushi cake! Anyone know what the red paste was that they used beneath the shiso leaves? My first thought was red bean paste, but it looked more translucent, like fruit. Maybe that Japanese sour salted plum thing, made into a โjamโ of sorts?

Is it sushi? Technically, if it's made with properly cooked and seasoned rice, it is, because that's what "sushi" means. But this offends the *idea* of sushi, like chocolate sauce and marshmallows baked on a flatbread offends the idea of pizza.
