In this photo you can see a single ceramic plaster. It looks like a regular brown plaster. Hand painted and glazed, the piece is a limited edition of 30. The artist made this art from the perspective of his inner child, who grew up not understanding his fathers depression. The trauma informed, adult survivor of abuse is helping the inner child to process the frustration of wanting desperately to help 'heal' or 'fix' his father but nothing worked. In this instance the plaster represents the naivety of the inner child and a lack of understanding of depression, despite it dominating the family home. The photo shows a screen print, composed of four layers. Three of which are the artists inner child, expressing the fear and chaos of growing up in a poor, working class family in Britain. They show many houses that the artist, Benjamin Rostance occupied with his family during his childhood. In the centre is an atom bomb at the peak of its destructive power. The final layer is black ink, the adult survivor lays down the torment of infrastructure being disconnected and falling up toward the atom bombs mushroom cloud. The image wrestles with themes of childhood trauma, healing, surviving abuse and the artists complex relationship with his estranged caregivers. This print is 1 of 15 and availible to purchase.
