It's outrageous that the class of people who see themselves as uniquely intelligent, informed, and analytical are just now discovering this. What they seem never to have considered is that a robust regulatory state that enforces laws passed by a representative body is the compromise position. The alternative is that those responsible for such a flagrantly unfair society, whose brutality is as real for us as it is invisible to them, no longer get to move about freely and peacefully for fear of everyday people.
